After thirteen vintages at Leesburg-based Tarara Winery, Jordan Harris is leaving to take his winemaking talents and experience north.
Harris recently accepted the position as winemaker at Heron Hill Winery on Keuka Lake in the Finger Lakes region of New York.
Harris, who was born and raised in Ontario, Canada, earned a degree in winemaking and viticulture from Niagara College, in Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario.
Jordan and his wife Jen moved to Leesburg in 2007, the day after their honeymoon, where they have raised three sons and become important members of the local community.
“I’m excited about this new opportunity to work with varieties that I love like Riesling and Pinot Noir,” said Harris. “I have to admit that I am also sad that I’m not going to finish my winemaking career in a wine industry that I love. Jen and I are deeply involved in the industry and we’re going to miss everyone.”
Harris is currently splitting his time between Heron Hill and Tarara Winery; his last day at Tarara will be Friday, June 26.
Harris leaves huge boots to fill at Tarara Winery. The Virginia wine industry’s loss is the Finger Lakes’s gain.
