Let’s talk about Cabernet Franc…

Grab a bottle of your favorite local Cabernet Franc and join us for ‘chat on Thursday, April 23, at 7:30pm Eastern Time (register here).

The versatile and aromatically charming Cabernet Franc may be best known as the signature red grape of the Loire Valley and a blending grape used in Bordeaux to add floral and spice notes to Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, it’s also one of the most important grapes in Virginia and other smaller regions.

In 1990, the late Dennis Horton, who founded Horton Vineyards, planted his first Cabernet Franc vines in his vineyard in Orange County.  Two years later, Horton and winemaker Allan Kinne, bottled the first Virginia Cabernet Franc commercial sale.

Today, Cab Franc is thriving in vineyards throughout Virginia and is the second most planted grape variety in the state.

I’ll be joined by Dr. Joy Ting, winemaker and research enologist at the Virginia Winemakers Research Exchange, Luca Paschina, winemaker at Barboursville Vineyards, Stephen Barnard, winemaker at Keswick Vineyards, and you!

We’ll talk about Cabernet Franc’s origins, it’s many expressions and why it’s thriving eastern U.S. regions like Virginia.
