Although there are quite a few wine-related events/festivals in the Tidewater, VA area (consisting of Virginia Beach, Chesapeake, Norfolk, Portsmouth, Hampton, Newport News, and Suffolk), there are but two major wine events here – the Towne Point Wine Fest in Norfolk in the Fall, and the Chesapeake Bay Wine Classic in Virginia Beach in the Spring.

This year’s Chesapeake Bay Wine Classic is upon us – Sunday, April 11th.   Unlike the Town Point Wine Fest, which typically includes only Virginia wineries (definitely nothing wrong with that), over 300 wines from all over the world will be poured at the CBWC.  Check out the Grand Tasting Catalogue –  http://www.cbwc.org/documents/TastingCatalog2010.pdf

In addition to the 300 wines being poured, 24 local restaurants will be preparing food for the event.  Most notably, this year’s CBWC will include a ‘Chef Smackdown’ – six local chefs battling it out Iron Chef style.

Kevin Brauch of Iron Chef America will be hosting the CBWC ‘Chef Smackdown.’ Six local chefs will take to the stage in an exhilarating contest judged by our elite panel of judges. Complete with all the elements of an exciting chef competition, you can cheer on your favorite local chefs competing for the top spot in our first Chef Smackdown! Contestants are Meredith Adams of Eurasia Cafe, Richard Boone of Sonoma Wine Bar & Bistro, Bobby Huber of Steinhilber’s, Jerry Weihbrecht of Zoë’s, Alvin Williams of Cobalt Grill, and Willie Moats of Byrd & Baldwin!

Prior to the Chef Smack Down, there are a number of seminars, including:
