Disclaimer: I received this wine as a sample from Natural Merchants. As the name suggests, the Natural Merchants Selections includes 150 organic wines.
I had this cava lined up for a Champagne/Cava/Prosecco/Sparkling Wine taste off on Super Bowl Sunday to celebrate the Steelers win, however, I was sick so the big bubbly taste off never happened. Instead, my wife and I enjoyed this bottle last night to follow our sushi dinner and to sip on while packing for a trip to Hong Kong.
Tarantas Cava Brut is a blend of Macabeu, Xarel lo and Parellada. 11.5% alcohol. Made with organically grown grapes on 55 hectares resulting in about 100,000 bottles produced. Like most Cava’s, this one is easy to drink and versital. Pale yellow in color with tinges of gold with initial aromas of 7-up followed by a green apple and pear component. Very light yet lively mouth feel with tastes of green apple and hints of spice followed by a clean, dry finish.
The Tarantas Cava is produced by Bodegas Iranzo and can be found at Whole Foods Markets nationwide for $12.99 – this is a very reasonable price point for an organic wine. This particular sparkler would make a great dinner party aperitif or light sipping wine for vegging at home eating take out.
