Tonight marks my first chance to use of my newest wine related toys – the Riedel Bordeaux Grand Cru glass – aka ‘big ass glass.’ My awesome wife surprised me with the big ass glass this weekend along with this Ponzi Tavoli.
Ponzi Vineyards, based in the Willamette Valley of Oregon, was founded in 1970 and is now operated by 2nd generation family members. In 2000, Ponzi Vineyards was certified by LIVE, the Oregon program for Low Input Viticulture and Enology. The certification recognizes compliance with specific sustainable agricultural practices and products.
Ponzi Tavola 2005 Pinot Noir Willamette Valley – 13.8% alcohol – $26.99 – On the nose I found pungent raspberry and cherry cola aromas with hints of cinnamon. Juicy mouth feel. A lot of raspberry in the mouth along with coffee and earth. An enjoyable fruitier version of Oregon Pinot.
Paired this with homemade mozzarella, spicy pepperoni, pepperocinis and basil pizza.
